Vatnajokull - Iceland, Northern Europe

Now we move to Iceland, Northern Europe ^___^

This place is natural wonder of the world…

Vatnajokull is the largest glacier in Europe. There are some volcanoes under the glacier that make this a volcanic glacier lake.

This huge white mass covering the southeast area of the country is one of the most eyes catching when you see the map of Iceland. When eruptions occur from under the glacier, they will actually lift the ice like a fluffy white blanket.

Vatnajokull lies within the Skaftafell National Park, each year there are thousands of visitors come to hike, ski, sled and skidoo over its surface.

You can get there by road from Hofn. Hofn has an airport and is 8 hours bus ride from Reykjavik. The best time to go there is between May to August. One thing you should know is traversing the glacier is potentially dangerous, especially in winter time.

I think this is a nice destination for hikers. I am not a hiker, but I will love to go there to see the incredible nature view… ^___^
